Today is World Population Day

According to the United Nations, the number of people requiring critical relief has more than doubled since 2004, to over 100 million today, over and above the 60 million displaced people.

TODAY is World Population Day  – A day to create awareness of global population issues.

The international day is also observes the day the world population reached five billion (Day of Five Billion) in July 11, 1987.

The theme of this year’s World Population Day is Vulnerable Populations in Emergencies.

United Nations Development Programme  works in emergency settings around the globe to respond to the rights and needs of women and girls, helping them maintain their dignity, securing their safety, and restoring their access to sexual and reproductive health care.

This year, UNFPA will spend World Population Day raising awarness of the needs of vulnerable women and girls in emergencies.
