Load-shedding fun – unplugged

Lighten up your life with Eskom’s power outages.

JUST like an unwanted visitor on a Sunday afternoon, Eskom’s electricity crisis is not leaving anytime soon.

The quicker we come to terms with that, the better.

Here is some cool stuff to get up to when the lights go out.

• Interact – when last have you sat with your family and actually joined in on the conversation? These days, we get so engrossed in our cellphones or TV that we rarely find the time for those who matter.

• Read a book – now before the naysayers bombard me with the ‘I don’t read’ philosophy, maybe you should. It’s quite the educational tool.

• Wine instead of whine – yes, enough with the complaining. It’s not going to solve anything. A drink or two should help you relax, and accept that the power lies in Eskom’s hands (hahaha, the irony).

• Visit – maybe now is the time to see what your neighbours actually look like (even by candlelight if the load-shed is at night). And who knows, a long-lasting friendship can bloom from this visit.

• Braai – a good ole’ traditional braai (or potjie) always seems to brighten up the mood.

• Board games – have some fun with friends by playing a board game. Be wary of ‘30 seconds’ though, the competitive nature in that game is known to end the best of friendships.

• Spend time with your partner – with the cold weather making itself comfortable in Zululand, load-shedding is an added reason to snuggle up. (The single people can hug a teddy bear or something).

• Get out – if you experience power outages on the weekend, get out of the house. Do something. Anything. Life is for the living.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
