Mayor's Arbor Day message: City needs healthy environment
PUPILS who on Monday shared the traditional City of uMhlathuze’s Arbor Day annual tree planting ritual were also beneficiaries of some sound seeds of wisdom.
‘This is an opportunity to so something that has long term beneficial effects on the environment,’ City Mayor Cllr Mdu Mhlongo said at the East Central Arterial ceremony, in a brief speech to municipal staff and pupils and teachers from Aquadene Secondary School and John Ross College
‘We are an industrial town, where there are emissions; and we are not generally known for being environment friendly.
‘Therefore we must make an extra effort when it comes to conservation, so that future generations can inherit a healthy environment.’
He also planted other seeds of encouragement: ‘I want to inspire you to study hard and keep on participating actively in community matters so that you can preserve our culture and social environment, and improve our city,’ he told the pupils.
