City needs a garden venue

'We need a botanical gardens,' says City Mayor.

THE City of uMhlathuze is seriously lacking is venues large and attractive enough to host events such as upmarket weddings.

Councillors at last week’s Exco meeting agreed there is a dire shortage of halls and venues; and those we do have are booked out well in advance – both for functions and indoor sports.

While recent refurbishing of municipal halls was welcomed, taken place, this did not overcome the problem.

The matter came under discussion during debate on a proposal for a ‘cultural and recreation centre’ in Alton, rejected primarily based on improper land use rights and lack of parking.

‘What we need is some sort of botanical gardens for weddings and other functions,’ said Mayor Mdu Mhlongo.

This was enthusiastically received by councillors – and hopefully some local developer will run with the idea.
