VIDEO: Wildlife buyers fork out R5.716-million

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Game Auction shows interest in rhino waning.

OVER 40 buyers booked their seats for the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Game Auction held at the Centenary Capture Centre in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park yesterday.

On sale were 93 nyala, seven hippo, five buffalo and 13 White Rhinos.

Although EKZNW officials were pleased with the auction, the White Rhino definitely showed a slowing down in the prices.

The highest bid for a female White Rhino was R460 000, while the lowest was R200 000 for a male.

The total price paid for the rhino was R3.75-million.

Nyala went for between R10 500 and a top price of R20 500.

Not often on auction were a pod of five hippos, which fetched R48 000 each.

The five buffalo bulls fetched a total of R280 000.

Of the R5.714-million raised, R490 000 will go towards EKZNW’s Community Levy and R674 000 received for seven lots of nyala will be presented to the Makhasa Community Reserve.
