Keeping up with water pressure
If you thought load shedding was a nightmare, imagine having no water.

WITH one of the country’s worst droughts since 1992 due to climate change, abysmal state of water management, and an increase in the demand of water supply, South Africans can brace themselves for another spate of problems – water shedding!
If you thought load shedding was a nightmare, imagine having no water, all while knowing there is no substitute for it.
Similarly to the electricity crisis, since 1994 millions of people have been added onto the ‘water grid’, with little consideration to increase water storage or water intake plants.
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation, almost 37% of our clean, drinkable water is being misused due to negligence – leaking pipes, dripping taps and other infrastructure mishaps.
Municipalities across the country are now forced to reduce the overall water pressure and water supply, as this is seen as the most economical option in reducing water loss.

Looking for a plan B?
The issue of water has a greater currency now than ever before, creating the opportunity for innovative water conservation. There’s been a major shift of focus to rainwater harvesting as a solution and it’s been proven that harvested rain can supplement up to 86% of a household’s domestic water use.
To beat the water shedding blues, harvested rainwater can be affordable and highly efficient.
Getting into the flow of things
An issue for most, is likely to be the distribution of water from outside tanks. Charl White from ACDC Express explained that a booster pump system is a suitable solution for distributing water under pressure from water tanks. ‘These pumps are built for supplying clean water without abrasive particles and chemicals jeopardising the water’s quality for consumption.’
