Hope floats towards the Bay

The world's largest floating library, is heading for the Richards Bay Harbour in May

THE largest floating library in the world, the Logos Hope, will drop anchor in the Richards Bay harbour between 5 and 16 May.

Educational and Christian literature available at the giant floating book fair includes more than 5 000 titles on topics such as university studies, professional and career interests, history, science, economics, language learning, hobbies, novels, children’s literature, biographies, dictionaries, atlases, Bibles, study material and Christian lifestyle literature.

The Logos Hope’s crew and staff of 400, including professional seafarers, are non-salaried volunteers from 45 different nationalities, unified by their faith and mission to share God’s love.

Crew members provide medical aid, help construct schools, orphanages and homes, and donate food, clothing and books.

Teams also visit local hospitals, orphanages and prisons.

The Richards Bay Port Committee headed by Chairman, Pastor Luis Meneon, will spearhead preparations for the arrival of the Logos Hope.

Pastor Raveshen Ramsamy of Shalom Lighthouse Empangeni, says the committee is calling for all hands on deck.

‘We need local ambassadors for evangelism, volunteers to assist with tasks and tour guides to host the visitors.’

‘We will need 40 volunteers to serve on board the ship doing different duties,’ said Pastor Ramsamy.

‘Training will be provided and there is no age restriction for volunteers.

‘Lunch and dinner will be provided, but volunteers are responsible for their own breakfast.

‘The ship will dock on 3 May and work will commence on 5 May, from 9am to 10pm daily.

‘Volunteers can also serve longer if they so wish, from three months up to two years. They must however find their own sponsors.’
