IFP demands answers
IFP Provincial spokesperson on Social Development, MPL Ncamisile Nkwanyana queried: ‘One wonders why after so many years this centre is still not used.
THE Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in KwaZulu-Natal demands to know why the Department of Social Development (DSD) and Home Affairs offices built more than five years ago at Upper Nseleni are still closed.
IFP Provincial spokesperson on Social Development, MPL Ncamisile Nkwanyana queried: ‘One wonders why after so many years this centre is still not used.
‘DSD MEC Weziwe Thusi must give the public the answers about these offices which have become a white elephant, where public funds were wasted for nothing.
‘This centre is supposed to help the people of Ntambanana, who are still forced to travel long distances to Empangeni and Melmoth at great cost and inconvenience to process vital documents.’
‘We express our grave concern at this shameless abuse of public funds by the ruling party.
‘This has continued in spite of repeated criticism by the public and opposition parties.
‘When it comes to management of public funds within government departments, it is just lip service.
‘That is why there have been so many problems in the government departments.
‘Surely this centre was built for a purpose, but has been lying vacant all this time,’ continued Nkwanyana.
‘We demand to know how much was spent during the construction of this centre, and which company was awarded the tender.
‘We want the truth about this matter because this looks like it was only the contractor who benefitted and not the community.’
Nkwanyana continued to say the IFP calls on Thusi to ensure this centre is opened to the public and provides the services it was meant to without further delay.
‘The people must not be denied their constitutional right to access government services where they live,’ she said.
