Suburb opens doors of learning
In the past, local children were forced to utilise the neighbouring Brackenham Library or main library in the CBD.

THE opening of the Aquadene Community Library was met with great excitement and jubilation by local residents and school pupils, who are eager to put the new facility to good use.
For Aquadene residents the state of the art library, which is a first in the city to be installed with a computer centre to power up to 28 computers, is a landmark achievement after years of lobbying for a library in the suburb.
The R7-million facility will offer the community and surrounding areas access to books, study materials, audio resources and an Internet café.
The venue also has three conference rooms, a kitchen, individual and group study areas.
Speaking at the opening function, Ward 26 Councillor AS Dawood said the library has been a dream of residents since the 1990s.
Meanwhile, the two schools and numerous preschools in the suburb will benefit significantly, as the facility is within walking distance and those pupils waiting for transport after school will now have a venue to complete their homework and assignments.
In the past, local children were forced to utilise the neighbouring Brackenham Library or main library in the CBD.
This will also eliminate the risk of children using the dangerous pathway between the two suburbs to access the Brackenham Library.
Celebrating with the community at the grand opening, City Mayor Mduduzi Mhlongo said education remains the most powerful tool to change the world and encouraged the community to utilise the new library and protect the infrastructure from vandalism.
