HOME owners might not have their properties re-evaluated by the City of uMhlathuze Municipality for another two years.
During an Executive Committee meeting at the municipality on Tuesday, it was proposed that the City requests from the MEC of the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) to extend the annual valuation roll for the period from 1 July (next month) to 20 June 2019.
The objective for the proposal, as stated on the agenda item, is to ensure fair valuations of properties by developing a roll in line with the new Municipal Property Rates Act (MPRA).

‘A letter dated 10 April 2017 was received from CoGTA advising all municipalities that had implemented the general valuation roll in July 2013 to align and regularise the valuation roll validity to be in line with the new MPRA amendments.
‘The City of uMhlathuze is one of the municipalities that are affected, having implemented the current roll in July 2013.’
A two year extension would mean that the next cycle of the valuation roll will be for a period of six years, instead of a previous four-year duration.
