Fish taking the bait along the north coast

Anglers launching from Richards Bay have seen success with bigger tuna

ONCE again, anglers along the north coast shoreline were treated to a fishing frenzy resulting in a variety of fish options on the menu this past week.

The game fish nailed the majority of baits thrown into the deeper waters, with dorado and tuna the main species caught by those trolling skirted lures alongside the deeper drop-off areas. Colours that have worked include pink, black/purple and ‘fruit salad’.

Anglers launching from Richards Bay have seen success with bigger tuna, while the rock-and-surf fraternity have got their hands full with monster inedibles hunting their next meal.

Sand sharks and honeycombs have been the main culprits for anglers’ back pain and screaming reels, with drone anglers catching a lot of thorntail rays of late.

Fleshy baits, such as mackerel and redeye sardine, have been the most productive baits, but anglers who get their hands on a fresh shad are definitely in business.
