North coast still delivers goods

For deep sea anglers, Cape Vidal and Sodwana have been prime fishing spots, with couta the main target fish in these waters - although snoek has also been consistent.

FORTUNATELY for anglers, the north coast shoreline continued to roll out a number of catches across a variety of species.

Sailfish and monster tuna have also been on the menu at Vidal, which makes the drive worthwhile. Other great fishing spots have been uMdloti, Umhlanga and Westbrook.

Trolling fillet baits behind the backline in the early morning have proved very productive. The rock and surf fraternity have seen smaller kob in the Tugela mouth – caught on most baits – with chokka and sardine proving most popular.

These waters have also produced decent shad and tripletail. Anglers are encouraged not to overfish these species, but rather consider releasing them to help sustain the eco-system.
