Support musical evening fundraiser for Kobus van Wyk

The show, beginning at 6pm at Addison Park, is a fundraiser for former Medi-Park Pharmacy assistant Kobus van Wyk, who was paralysed in a motorbike accident in October 2017

EVENT organisers are calling on the community to dig deep into their pockets and support the Pieter Rischmuller, aka Piet Pompies, music evening at The Office Sports Bar in Empangeni on Saturday evening.

The show, beginning at 6pm at Addison Park, is a fundraiser for former Medi-Park Pharmacy assistant Kobus van Wyk, who was paralysed in a motorbike accident in October 2017.

Tickets cost R200 for VIP seats or R100 for the field. Food stalls will be available.

Tickets can be bought from The Office Sports Bar, or by contacting event organiser Cindy Muller on 082 4556008.

While delivering a parcel in wet weather conditions on his motorbike, a bakkie reversed into Kobus, resulting in him being thrown off his bike and landing head first on the tarmac.

Since then, Kobus has gone under the knife five times and has contracted a number of life-threatening infections that he has bravely fought off. He is connected to a ventilator as he cannot breathe on his own.

This life-long condition has impacted Kobus’ family in a huge financial and emotional way. His wife Marnet has had to take on a number of demanding roles to keep things together.

‘I’m sincerely grateful to the community for supporting us over the years, making the process a little easier to cope with,’ she said.

After being in hospital and rehabilitation centres since the accident, Kobus finally made his way home earlier this year and took up residency in the lounge area of his house where he is under the supervision of qualified nurses.

Marnet underwent training to learn what needs to be done, but will have nursing staff and doctors aiding her.

‘I vowed to love him for better or worse, and that is exactly what I am doing.

‘There is always hope, and I hope and pray that he can one day come off the ventilator.’
