North coast waters pay off for Zululand anglers

Those fishermen working the uMdloti, Tongaat and Ballito areas have managed to reap rewards in the form of snoek action in these waters

North coast anglers have been left satisfied over the past week, returning home with a variety of fish in their hatches.

Those fishermen working the uMdloti, Tongaat and Ballito areas have managed to reap rewards in the form of snoek action in these waters.

All three areas have been fished with spoons and fillet baits, which proved to be the secret to their success.

When targeting snoek, ensure to use lighter tackle than the usual couta stuff, as it provides a great fight and decreases the chances of pulling hooks.

There has been some great bottom fishing action on the deeper wrecks and reefs, with geelbek and daga salmon making up the bulk of the catches.

Live bait has been the most successful for the bigger bottom fish.

Rock and surf anglers have had their hands full with both edibles and inedibles.

Pink prawn has been the most successful bait for the scratching fish and has accounted for a number of species.

The bigger inedibles have shown a preference for mackerel and redeye combination baits.
