‘If our children do not perform well in their matric results they could face challenges of race, gender, and class-based poverty; inequality, and unemployment,’ Ntombela explained. ‘This could fuel a rise in crime, drug and alcohol abuse, and other social ills.’
Ntombela said government will continue implementing policies aimed at improving the standard of education and addressing skills’ shortages.
‘We acknowledge that Covid-19 has had an adverse effect on schooling, as well as many people’s way of life. As a result, many learners had difficulty when studying.
‘Despite the challenges, the ANC is pleased with the work of the provincial Department of Education, as well as commitment from educators, school governing bodies, school senior management teams, as well as learners.’
Ntombela congratulated the Education MEC, Kwazi Mshengu, and his team for the exam preparations.
‘We have confidence that the Academic Improvement Plan introduced in January will yield the desired results.’
