North coast fishermen spoilt for choice

Cape Vidal and Sodwana have been the main attractions for those able to travel.

ANGLERS working the north coast waters last week were blessed with bumper action on both the deep sea and rock and surf fronts.

Deep sea anglers saw plenty of action as the couta, tuna, sailfish and other species have been taking the bait.

Live bait proved to be the most productive.

Cape Vidal and Sodwana have been the main attractions for those able to travel.

Zinkwazi has been the most reported spot up north and has had a good mix of snoek in the mornings and bigger couta for the rest of the day.

Some good sized tuna have also fallen for a popper or two.

Rock and surf guys celebrated the arrival of good summer fish.

The diamonds especially have being caught in good numbers at the banks.

These areas are best fished with heavier tackle, 50lb braid and up, attached to an FMJ trace and a 10/0 circle hook.

This tackle combination will put you in good stead for the flatfish and sharks.

Try using juicy baits with plenty of smell.

You don’t have to throw a massive bait to catch a big fish, so focus on quality of bait over quantity.
