Sisama champions mental and physical health in the workplace

Staff, sub-contractors and members of the public enjoy a wellness day presented at Sisama

Recognising that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, Sisama treated its staff, sub-contractors and the public to a wellness day at its Alton premises on Monday, 2 December.

The day started with an aerobics session facilitated by a personal trainer, who encouraged everyone to push their bodies to the limit.

Sisama owner Amanda Mfeka welcomed participants, saying the wellness day served as a gesture to show how much Sisama cares about the wellbeing of its workers.

“The physical and mental health of our workers are very important to us. We acknowledge the work of a truck driver is not easy. We want to look after our drivers and remind them to take care of their health.

“As a business person, I am committed to focusing on the people behind the steering wheel – not just the cargo that they transport!” Mfeka said.

The date was chosen to commemorate World Aids Day (1 December) as well as the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence.

Social worker Sithembiso Mngomezulu addressed the truck drivers on mental health and the importance of dealing with issues such as trauma, stress, abuse and the diagnosis of serious diseases.

Those needing counselling were welcome to talk to him on the day.
Mpilonhle availed a mobile clinic where basic health screenings, such as blood pressure and sugar level testing, and voluntary TB and HIV tests were conducted.

The message was clear: By prioritising their health, people invest in their most valuable asset – themselves. It is an investment that yields long-term benefits such as increased productivity, resilience and happiness.
