Melomed Richards Bay welcomes three new exceptional specialists.

We are delighted to announce the addition of three exceptional specialists to our team at Melomed Richards Bay. Their expertise will enhance our range of medical services and strengthen our commitment to providing outstanding patient care.

Dr Innocent E Francis – Gastroenterologist

With over 15 years of clinical experience, Dr Innocent Francis specialises in gastroenterology. His impressive qualifications include an MBBCh, Diploma in Medicine, MMed (UCT), FCP(SA), and he is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Cape Town.

Dr Francis is proficient in a variety of interventional procedures, such as gastroscopy, upper GI cancer screening and colonoscopy. He also has extensive expertise in managing gastrointestinal conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, microscopic colitis and liver disorders.

Dr Suvarnah Bodasingh – Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Dr Suvarnah Bodasingh is a dedicated Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, focused on improving women’s health in the community. Her compassionate approach prioritises both the physical and emotional well-being of her patients.

She specialises in managing high-risk pregnancies, performing surgeries and delivering preventative care. Fluent in isiZulu, Dr Bodasingh is also an Honorary Lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), contributing to medical education and training.

Dr Suvarnah Bodasingh (Obstetrician and Gynaecologist)

Dr Solomzi Mzamo – Spine Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr Solomzi Mzamo is a highly skilled Spine Orthopaedic Surgeon, offering expertise in diagnosing and treating spinal disorders. After completing his undergraduate degree at Walter Sisulu University, Dr Mzamo gained extensive experience through roles at prestigious institutions, including:

  • Medical internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital
  • Community service at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital
  • Medical Officer at Bedford Orthopaedic Unit

Dr Mzamo obtained his Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa and a Master of Medicine degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He later served as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Durban and worked at King Dinuzulu Hospital Complex Spine Unit, where he specialised exclusively in spine surgery.

His areas of interest include:

  • Spine trauma and deformity correction
  • Spine infections and tumours
  • Degenerative spine conditions
  • General orthopaedic trauma
