World Cup: ‘Spot’ the mistake as Poland miss their chance
Poland's goal-scoring machine Robert Lewandowski was almost the invisible man for much of the 90 minutes

A POORLY struck penalty from Poland’s goal-scoring machine Robert Lewandowski cost his country three points in their Group C clash with Mexico last night (Tuesday) which ended 0-0.
There was certainly no ‘polish’ about the way he telegraphed his intentions to Mexican keeper Ochoa, who decoyed to the right and dived to the left to keep out the spot kick that lacked power and direction.

The 54th minute opportunity was virtually the only real chance in a dull match that promised much but delivered little.
Neither side’s performance would have caused any more shivers up the spine of their group rivals Argentina after the latter’s dreadful defeat to Saudi Arabia.
The fact is that, apart from his missed penalty, Lewandowski – on whom Poland had pinned their hopes – was almost the invisible man for much of the 90 minutes.
Not that Mexico had much to offer upfront either, making little use of the many chances their industrious midfielders set up.
Both teams will have to up their game considerably if they want to progress to the Round of 16.
