Concern about rampant drug abuse in Mtuba
Parents are pleading for something to be done as the number of youth partaking in drug-related activities rises.
Residents in Mtubatuba are increasingly concerned about the growing drug abuse problem among local youth.
One mother said: “My son leaves home early in the morning and returns home the next day, or even after a couple of days, without telling me where he was or what he was doing.
“When he does eventually come home, he is not in the right state of mind.
“I am starting to fear that one day he might not return home or that the drugs might end his life.”
Parents are pleading for something to be done as the number of youth partaking in drug-related activities rises.
Mtubatuba SAPS spokesperson, Captain Justice Hlabisa commented: “We encourage residents to report any illegal activities to the police.
“We conduct school visits where we talk to children about the danger of drug abuse, and we encourage parents to inform us if they suspect their children are on drugs.”
“We work with Lifeline, Sanca and other social workers, and follow up on information that might help us track down drug lords in the affected areas.”
