WATCH: Motorist escapes car fire in Empangeni

AN Empangeni motorist is lucky to be alive after he managed to jump out of his car minutes before it burst into flames.

City of uMhlathuze firefighters were called to the scene near the park off Durnford Road at lunchtime today (Thursday).

Their prompt arrival saw the blaze extinguished in a matter of minutes.

Speaking to the Zululand Observer, the driver of the vehicle said he saw something leaking near his engine and could smell something, then the car caught alight.

He managed to jump out before the blaze engulfed the entire vehicle. No injuries were reported from the scene.
