Zululander launches cycling academy to help address social ills

Generous donation warmly welcomed by Empangeni community cycling academy

In a bid to bring serious issues to light, the Gxoba Isitibuli Cycling Academy runs community children’s and youth cycling programmes in the Zululand region.

The academy hosts events to raise awareness on topics such as gender-based violence, substance abuse, children’s rights, HIV/Aids and more.

Odondolo’s Goodman Manqele started the academy a few years ago with the goal of keeping local youngsters out of trouble, giving them something fun and productive to occupy themselves with, and educating them along the way.

Goodman makes all this happen while working a full-time job as a manager at McDonald’s in Empangeni, and dealing with his own personal life.

While he is doing a sterling job, he could use some extra help.

The box of spares from Greg Minnaar Cycles will be put to good use at the Gxoba Isitibuli Cycling Academy

Recently, Empangeni High School and Tyron Trisos, manager at Greg Minnaar Cycles, sponsored toys, cycling kit, spares, helmets, shoes and gloves.

Their generosity has been a blessing to Goodman and the academy, with these items going a long way towards making many local youngsters happy this festive season.

If you would like to do your bit to help Goodman keep the Gxoba Isitibuli Cycling Academy going, contact him on 061 1885053.

“I am fighting against the things that are killing our community – I will never give up on the children,” said Goodman.
