KZN lottery winner stashes ‘million dollar’ ticket under mattress before cashing in

Winning lottery ticket bought from grocery store in Mandeni lands man multi-million rand windfall

A KZN man is basking in the glow of becoming a multi-millionaire after selecting the winning numbers in the final PowerBall PLUS draw of March, claiming the R47.8-million jackpot.

But this was not before he shoved the winning ticket under his mattress for a few days before cashing in on his winnings.

This is according to Ithuba who on Tuesday confirmed the mega win.

The winner reportedly bought his R45 ticket from Raps Grocery Store in Mandeni and manually selected his numbers for the Saturday, 28 March draw.

“I always knew I would win someday,” he said. “At this moment, I can’t even think of exactly what I’m going to do with all this money.

“All I know is that, as an unemployed person, I have been yearning to live a better life. I just want to be happy.”
According to Ithuba, operator of the National Lottery, the winner is unmarried and has no children.

He plans to use his massive windfall to improve his life and help others, starting with a donation to a local church.
