Spectacular soccer showdown set for Zululand region on Freedom Day

SOCCER fans across King Cetshwayo District are bracing for a spectacular football showdown between the legends of the game.

This as former football stars under uMhlathuze Municipality are set to host the Siyabakhumbula Football Tournament in honour of all those legends who have departed.

The games will take place from 9am on Sunday, 27 April at Erico Park in Empangeni.

According to the tournament organiser, Pat Mkhabela, the region is rich with soccer legends who have contributed immensely to the development of the sport in this area, and these games are aimed at uniting such great talent while motivating future football stars.

Among the teams of legends set to participate in the tournament are eSikhaleni Take Five, Ngwelezane, Empangeni, Macekane and the famous Dondotha legends of Siyabonga Sangweni,

the former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates defender.

Taking to the field on the day, spectators should be prepared for flair and million-dollar passes from the likes of Derick Spence, Jomo Gumede and Ace Mdlalose’s team.
