Hawks probe Hluhluwe CIT heist

An investigation is under way following a recent cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in Hluhluwe

Hawks have launched a full-scale investigation into a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist that took place on Friday in the vicinity of the Mqobokazi in Hluhluwe.

Reports indicate that CIT guards were driving on R22 from Emanguzi to Richards Bay when they were attacked by unknown suspects who fired shots at the armoured vehicle until it stopped.

KZN Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, said gunmen disarmed the guards and used explosives to blast open the van.

“They took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled. No arrest has been made at this stage. Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime Investigation is investigating a robbery case,” he said.
