WATCH: Richards Bay residents outraged after driver caught spinning vehicle on beach

Richards Bay residents angered by driver caught spinning their vehicle on the shoreline at Bay Hall area in Richards Bay

City of uMhlathuze officials are investigating an incident at the Bay Hall area in Richards Bay in which a driver was videoed spinning his vehicle on the shoreline.

This was in full view of residents and visitors to the area on Thursday.

While joyrides on the shoreline have become a ‘usual’ sight in the Bay Hall area, with several vehicles having previously been ‘swallowed’ by an incoming tide, the act contravenes municipal by-laws.

The latest footage comes just months after the City of uMhlathuze reminded vehicle owners that driving onto the beach is prohibited and punishable by law.

This is after a driver was videoed in February navigating his vehicle along the shoreline at Alkantstrand.

“Visitors to our beach areas in the City of uMhlathuze are cautioned against driving on beaches,” said uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Christo Botha after the February incident.

“This behaviour is unacceptable and will lead to fines, with the vehicle and driver being red-flagged.

“It is disappointing that some individuals show no regard for their community or environment.”
