Motorists urged to stay alert after violent attack at stop-and-go in Empangeni

A motorist was stabbed during a brazen smash-and-grab attack at an Empangeni stop-and-go on Sunday.

Motorists are warned to be vigilant after a smash-and-grab that turned violent, took place at a stop-and-go in Empangeni on Sunday.

According to Empangeni CPF’s Mo Bassa, the victim was travelling on the R34 between Qalakabusha Correctional Centre and the P230 towards the Ndlangubo turn-off when he was attacked.

The victim, a Richards Bay CPF member, was waiting at the stop-and-go at the time.

“They smashed his window and proceeded to stab him several times with a knife. The aggressiveness of the attack indicates they have no regard for life and blatantly do this in the presence of other vehicles,” said Bassa.

He added that the victim was okay, but sustained several lacerations to his left arm and has severely bruised ribs.

Bassa urged motorists not to open their windows for anyone while queueing at a stop-and-go.

A case has been opened for investigation at Empangeni SAPS.
