Richards Bay’s coastline faces a wave of proposed offshore developments in mining and wind farming

FROM oil and gas exploration to a proposed floating windmill farm and possible mining for minerals, the Richards Bay coastline continues to be a target for several offshore developments.

While some remain in the pipeline, many facing major opposition from environmentalists, a number of companies are still seeking exploration rights.

These include a heavy metals mining company, which seeks multi-commodity prospecting rights to search for various minerals and metals.

“Trans Hex Heavy Minerals Mining (Pty) Ltd (THHMM) is applying for a multi-commodity prospecting right in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resource Development Act 28 of 2002 (MPRDA) offshore of Richards Bay.”
