Vervet monkey survives being shot ten times

Discharging airguns in public is illegal and prosecutable with evidence, but constant vervet shootings reveal lax enforcement

DESPITE recent public warnings against the shooting of vervet monkeys in Richards Bay, the practice occurs unabated.

This despite the discharging of weapons in residential areas being illegal.

A severely wounded monkey was on Monday found in Meerensee with several bite and maul wounds.

On X-raying the primate patient, doctors Otto and Vorster from Arboretum Veterinary Clinic were horrified to find that the monkey had 10 pellets lodged in her body.
