The process is simple, well-organised, and designed to make sure every vote counts.
Here’s how your voting day will unfold:
1. Arrive at the right voting station
Before anything else, make sure you go to the correct voting station where you are registered. Voting stations are usually set up at schools, churches, or community halls, or mobile units. They’re open from 7am to 9pm so you have the whole day to cast your vote.
2. Show your ID at the entrance
At the door, an election official will check your ID – this can be your green ID book, smart ID card, or temporary ID. Your ID is scanned, and you’ll be guided on what to do next.
3. Confirm your registration
Inside, your name will be checked against the voters’ roll. Once confirmed:
· Your name is marked off (so you can’t vote twice)
· Your thumb is inked to visibly show you’ve voted
4. Receive your ballot papers
Next, you’ll be given your ballot papers. Make sure each one has an official stamp on the back as this ensures it’s valid. Depending on your area, you may receive two or three ballots.
5. Cast your vote
You’ll be directed to a private voting booth. This is your moment. Simply:
· Make one clear X next to your chosen party or candidate on each ballot
· Avoid making multiple marks to prevent spoiling your vote
· If you make a mistake, don’t panic, just ask for a new ballot.
6. Place your ballots in the box
Fold your ballots and place them into the sealed ballot box. Officials will check the stamps before you do. And just like that, your vote is cast.
7. Exit with confidence
As you leave, remember: the process is carefully monitored by party agents and independent observers to ensure it is free and fair.
