uMkhanyakude, Zululand districts get update on bulk water supply project

The Mandlakazi Bulk Water Supply Project aims to provide water across, and improve supply to, the entire Zululand District.

This was revealed during a high-level engagement with senior officials from the Department of Water and Sanitation, represented by Deputy Director General Dr Risimati Mathye and Masala Mulaudzi.

The delegation on Friday met with leadership from both Zululand and uMkhanyakude districts in Jozini, to assess progress and strengthen intergovernmental co-ordination on the project.

Zululand District Municipality was represented by the municipal manager, Ntokozo Hlongwa, and the head of planning services, Thokozani Soko, while uMkhanyakude District was represented by the chief director for technical services, Luzuko Govu.

After the meeting, the delegation conducted an on-site visit to a key infrastructure point where the main bulk pipeline from Jozini Dam crosses into Zululand – a critical component of the overall water supply system.

Zululand District Mayor Michael Khumalo identified this initiative as a major project during the recent IDP and budget roadshows.

He highlighted its strategic significance, describing the project as a game changer that will enhance water supply for the people of Zululand.
