Heavy rain recorded in Richards Bay

Birdswood recorded 100mm of rainfall in 24 hours this weekend

While no localised flooding has been reported in the City of uMhlathuze as at Sunday lunchtime, heavy rainfall was recorded in and around Richards Bay yesterday (Saturday).

The Richards Bay Clean Air Association’s (RBCAA) station in the town’s CBD recorded 69.1mm of rain, while another gauge between Hillside and Foskor recorded 79.2mm of rainfall.

It was Birdswood that received the heaviest downpour, however, recording 100mm in 24 hours.

The figures follow Friday’s warning of disruptive rainfall for most of KZN.

The SA Weather Service (SAWS) on Friday issued a yellow level 2 warning for disruptive rains in uMlalazi, Mandeni and KwaDukuza, among other areas in the province.

“Around 30 to 50mm of rainfall is expected along the south coast of KZN, leading to localised flooding due to the persistence of rainfall over those areas,” the SAWS stated.
