Commissioner’s image not to be used in political campaigns, warn police

SAPS contemplates taking legal action against those impersonating Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on social media

KZN police have warned the public not to use images of provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in social media and political campaigns.

SAPS said Mkhwanazi does not have a social media account, and warned that all social media accounts bearing his name and image are fake.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the SAPS is contemplating taking legal steps against those who impersonate Mkhwanazi to advance their agendas.

“The provincial commissioner would also like to plead with members of the public to refrain from using his photographs during politically-aligned marches, especially those against the State president.

“Although the provincial commissioner appreciates the support people have shown towards the work of the police in KZN, the use of his photographs and names on posters and banners during marches has the potential of sending unintended messages to government, government officials, and the international community.

“The provincial commissioner of KZN is against crime and criminals, not leaders in government,” said Ntshiunda.
