Search for Lake Mzingazi drown victim continues

Search and rescue operations continue for man who went missing in Mzingazi lake

The body of a man who drowned in Lake Mzingazi last Friday is yet to be recovered.

While there were reports of a body that had surfaced last week, these were dismissed as the search for Juma Tumewu Langa continues.

Aiding the ground and marine search and rescue operations alongside SAPS, the Hussar Public Safety Support Unit (PSSU) was deployed to Lake Mzingazi following reports of a missing person after eyewitnesses confirmed that a small boat had capsized during a crossing, submerging a male occupant beneath the water.

Langa and his brother swum after the boat capsized, but only his brother made it safely to shore.

Despite challenging wind conditions, the drone pilot launched the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and began a systematic search, focusing on the last known location and scanning the surrounding riverbanks for any signs of the individual, to no avail.

Community worker Sharon Mdletshe said they visited the police station following reports that a body was recovered, but confirmed Langa’s body had not yet been found.
