No discounted electricity tokens, warns Eskom
Power utility warns residents about buying 'discounted' electricity tokens from illegal vendors
Electricity is regulated, and there is no discounted price for it.
This is a stern warning from Eskom, which urges residents to stop buying tokens from illegal vendors.
“An illegal vendor is anyone who sells you illegal electricity tokens at a discount,” said the power utility.
“These syndicates keep that money and do not pay it to Eskom or the municipality. Illegal vendors also offer discounted electricity online.”
Eskom urged residents to buy electricity tokens from registered vendors who sell tokens via online banking and in supermarkets, spaza shops and mini markets.
Meanwhile, the power utility also continues to plead with communities to safeguard the power system.
“Illegal connections and meter bypassing not only constitute theft, but also place immense strain on the network, often leading to transformer overloads, equipment damage, and in severe cases, explosions and extended outages.
“Electricity should be purchased only through Eskom-accredited vendors, and users are encouraged to regularise their electricity usage,” said Eskom.
