Mtubatuba Regional Court sends rapist to prison for life

Man convicted of raping and sexually assaulting two children, aged 7 and 5

THE Mtubatuba Regional Court has sentenced a 34-year-old man to life and five years imprisonment for the rape and sexual assault of two young children in the KwaMsane area in December 2023.

The accused was attending a traditional ceremony when he saw the victims playing outside.

He promised to give them money if they followed him to an outside bathroom. There, he raped the one child and sexually assaulted the other.

A witness saw the children run from the bathroom and then entered and found the accused pulling up his pants.

The matter was reported to the police and the accused was arrested. Prosecutor Sphelele Precious Mdluli led the evidence with the witness and a medical practitioner who had examined the victims.

The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and five years for sexual assault.

“The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the successful conviction and sentence,” said KZN National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara.

“The NPA remains resolute in our pursuit of justice for victims of child abuse. We will continue to protect the rights and dignity of children.”
