Security guard attacked in foiled Aquadene library break-in
Security guard fights off suspected criminals at Aquadene Library
A security guard stationed at Aquadene Community Library was attacked on Wednesday night by three suspected criminals.
The incident occurred just before midnight.
Aquadene CPF chairperson Quade Goodman confirmed that the officer had sustained minor injuries and was taken to the clinic after the trio of suspects accosted him by throwing stones and using a bushknife.
“The suspects were seen in the area where the air-conditioning units are situated, but nothing was taken as the crime was foiled when the officer incepted them,” said Goodman.
“They ran away but returned and attacked the officer while trying to take him down and tie him up up.
“As the officer fought off the perpetrators, the community heard the screams for help and responded, followed by the CPF.
“This theft of air-conditioning components is on the rise. Community members must be vigilant and report suspicious activity on the crime groups or to CPF members,” he said.
In recent weeks, the CPFs of Aquadene and Brackenham have reported several buildings targeted in this new crime trend, ranging from schools to churches.
The crime trend sees criminals targeting the outside component of the air-conditioning unit, which contain copper elements, from coils to copper piping.
