Melmoth killer jailed for life
Life imprisonment for Melmoth man convicted of murdering his fiancée
The Melmoth Regional Court this week convicted and sentenced Mlungisi Sziwe Mhlongo to life imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to murdering his fiancée.
The crime took place in November 2024, in the Mfanefile area. Mhlongo was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
This after the court heard that on the day of the incident, Mhlongo went to the deceased’s homestead to speak to her and resolve some issues they were experiencing.
The deceased was with her friend. Mhongo asked her friend to leave so the two could speak in private.
Once the friend had left, Mhlongo confronted the deceased and accused her of cheating on him; the deceased refuted the allegation.
Mhlongo stabbed the woman 16 times and was seen leaving the homestead with a knife in his hand.
After the incident, Mhlongo handed himself over to the police and made a confession, and was subsequently arrested.
In her victim impact statement, the deceased’s mother said her daughter was a respectful and supportive person who loved her family.
She further said that their house has now become a crime scene and a constant reminder of the day her daughter was murdered.
