N3 toll route busy over weekend as Easter travel volumes expected to rise
Traffic volumes expected to increase over the Easter weekend
Traffic volumes on the N3 Toll Route were relatively busy over the weekend, with around 1 400 vehicles per hour travelling southbound towards KwaZulu-Natal on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, The Witness reports.
According to the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), just under 2 000 vehicles per hour were recorded travelling northbound at the Mooi Toll Plaza on Sunday as motorists made their way towards Gauteng.
“Current traffic forecasts suggest that traffic volumes are likely to remain steady throughout the week, with busy traffic conditions expected in a southbound direction on Thursday, April 2, and Friday, April 3 2026.”
N3TC added that peak traffic volumes are expected on Easter Monday, April 6, and Tuesday, April 7, as the end of the Easter weekend coincides with the conclusion of the school holidays.
N3TC said all construction activities along the route will be suspended from Thursday until Tuesday next week to accommodate the expected increase in traffic.
“Only essential emergency roadworks will be undertaken, if required, particularly in response to incidents that may cause damage to road infrastructure.
“Any emergency maintenance during this period will be carefully managed to minimise disruption to traffic flow, especially during peak periods.”
N3TC added motorists travelling between Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and Heidelberg in Gauteng are advised to monitor verified traffic and weather updates via @N3Route on X.
