5 tips to avoid road rage

Here are some tips to diffuse road rage incidents

It is said that road rage is usually less about the other driver and more about feeding one’s ego.

Highways have become the duelling arena for many showdowns, and in extreme cases have turned fatal.

According to the police crime statistics, from October to December 2025 incidents such as misunderstandings, arguments, road rage and provocation claimed the lives of 1 158 people.

Nowadays, with pride and ego taking the driver’s seat, being perceived as a coward on the road could save your life.

Arrive Alive has shared tips to diffuse road rage incidents:

• Stay calm and avoid eye contact with the aggressive driver so as not to exacerbate the situation
• Do not respond to provocative or disrespectful words or actions
• Do what you can to avoid conflict
• If the aggressor persists, don’t go home; drive to the nearest police station instead
• In the event that you are stuck in traffic, try to signal to other vehicles for help

A key tip for drivers to remember is that, in most cases, the mistakes of a random driver on the road are not a personal attack on you.

Adopting a positive approach will help you switch gears and move on, because no one wins when a life is prematurely ended owing to the inability to control emotions.
