WATCH: Richards Bay and surroundings still without water following pipeline burst

Major water pipe burst leaves Richards Bay residents without water, City of uMhlathuze dispatches water tankers

Richards Bay and surroundings are still without water following yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon’s pipe burst.

Initial repairs on the affected 800mm pipeline were completed yesterday (Wednesday); however, additional leaks developed shortly thereafter.

City of uMhlathuze communications manager Simphiwe Makhanya told the Zululand Observer that the team is still working on the repairs.

“[There is] no estimated time for the restoration of the water supply. In the meantime, water tankers will assist hospitals, schools and businesses with storage.

“It’s worth noting that water will be collected at Empangeni. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused,” said Makhanya.
