eSikhaleni’s future hockey star is looking for support

Young hockey player chosen to compete in the United Kingdom

An opportunity to compete in the United Kingdom in September is on hold for hockey star Sinothando Sibiya (16), unless she can secure the funding.

The eSikhaleni-born hockey player was chosen from more than 3 000 national participants to compete in a sports tour to England and Scotland.

Nothando Masondo, mother of the Empangeni High School Grade 10 pupil, says this is a lifechanging opportunity for her daughter, but they need to raise a staggering R58 375 to cover the travel costs.

However, Masondo is optimistic that, with support, her daughter will get to compete and gain exposure in the international arena.

“Sinothando is a hardworking and ambitious individual who consistently demonstrates discipline, resilience and passion for excellence on and off the field. Her selection by the Southern Cape Sports Tours [SCST] is a testament to her commitment and potential to succeed at an international level,” said Masondo.

Congratulating the young athlete, SCST director Nico Bezuidenhout said this selection was a significant achievement.

“We believe this international experience will not only challenge and inspire Sinothando, but also contribute meaningfully to her personal growth and future sporting journey,” said Bezuidenhout.
