Soccer set to further boost uMhlathuze coffers

Milford FC begins training for Betway Premiership, boosting local tourism and creating opportunities for young regional football talent.

BACK home after visiting their birthplace roots in the Eastern Cape for celebrations, thanksgiving and prayers after promotion to the top tier of SA football, Milford FC began training this week.

Their presence in the Betway Premiership will also bolster the city’s sport tourism coffers, which last year were swelled by the uMhlathuze Sport Complex hosting the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

In addition, it has opened doors of opportunity for many young local players who contested for final selection on Friday.

“While we have lost a few players, we have already made four notable additions to beef up the squad,” said spokesperson Sinothando Pupuma, head of marketing, media and communications.

“I’d like to encourage our supporters to keep believing in this project.

“Milford FC is about more than just football; it’s about creating opportunities, inspiring young people and giving our community something to be proud of.

“We don’t take your support for granted, and we promise to keep working tirelessly to represent this badge with pride. Together, we can achieve something truly special,” said Pupuma.

Meanwhile, local fans are already licking their lips at the prospect of being able to watch twice the number of PSL games in a season, plus, of course, the first ever local derby.
