Collision at the eSikhaleni intersection on the John Ross highway leaves one person seriously injured

According to reports from the scene, one of the vehicles was stationary at the intersection, waiting for its turn to turn right towards eSikhaleni, when it was rear-ended by a vehicle that had been rear-ended by a another vehicle.

City of uMhlathuze Fire & Rescue was required to tend to an oil spill as a result of the collision.

Mounties EMS responded to the call out and attended to one person who had sustained serious but not critical injuries.

While the exact cause of the collision is unknown, it comes as several traffic light intersections were out of order across the City of uMhlathuze owing to storm damage over the weekend.

The uMhlathuze Municipality issued a statement on Monday morning alerting motorists to the situation and urging them to treat all affected intersections as four-way stops.

The municipality said its teams would see to the non-functional robots, aiming to repair them throughout the day.
