WATCH: Water supply delay for city residents after pipe burst

Burst pipe leaves City of uMhlathuze communities without water for two days

Residents in several parts of the City of uMhlathuze will continue to experience water outages following the burst of a 600mm pipeline from the eSikhawini Water Treatment Works.

The burst pipe has left communities without water for two days, affecting areas including eSikhaleni township, KwaDlangezwa, and parts of Madlankala Reserve.

Speaking during a site visit to the damaged pipeline, City of uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor, Cllr Muzi Mtshali confirmed that the appointed contractor had arrived on site and that extrusion welding of the 600mm HDPE riser main from the eSikhawini Water Treatment Works was under way.

“At this stage, no estimated turnaround time has been identified. Further updates on the latest developments will be shared as they become available,” said Mtshali.

He apologised for the inconvenience caused and appealed to residents to remain patient while repair work continues.
