THE City of uMhlathuze says it was aware of the low water pressure and intermittent supply affecting parts of Empangeni in recent days.

City communications manager Simphiwe Makhannya told the Zululand Observer this morning (Thursday) that there are various factors contributing to the low pressure.

“These include a leaking riser main pipe from Ensezi Water Treatment Works, which was repaired by uMngeni-uThukela Water a couple of days ago.

“In addition, a reticulation line from Maguzulu Reservoir was also found to be leaking and has been repaired,” said Makhanya.

He added that the city’s Water Conservation and Water Demand Management team is on site investigating the root cause of the low pressure.

“The team is assessing the system to determine whether there are any further underlying issues contributing to the problem. The findings of the investigation will be shared once the assessment has been completed,” said Makhanya.

Moreover, according to Makhanya, if all goes well and no further faults are identified, water supply is expected to return to normal, and stabilise, within three to five days from today.

“The city appreciates the patience and understanding of affected residents and businesses while the necessary investigations and interventions are being undertaken,” said Makhanya.
