OPINION: Empangeni residents deserve better

Can this situation be taken seriously by the authorities so it's rectified once and for all?

My letter refers to the recent article entitled Empangeni water woes continue.

It’s outrageous that two government entities, i.e. the municipality and the water board, can’t work together to rectify the situation for the good of the residents and ratepayers.

Having water continually seep onto a children’s daycare centre is firstly a massive waste of this precious resource, and secondly a danger to the kids at the school.

Not to mention the mosquitoes that will breed there now that the weather is warming up.

Rather than bouncing the problem – and affected ratepayers – around from pillar to post, can the situation be taken seriously by the authorities so it’s rectified once and for all?

At the very least, water should not be allowed to be wasted like this; that in itself is criminal.

And I cannot see how this can be groundwater if it hasn’t been a problem before.
