Goal fest at EHS over the weekend

Eleven teams took part over the two age groups providing fast end-to-end action

A NUMBER of sensational goals were scored as a result of local U15 and U16 girls soccer teams competing in the annual Central Park Spar and Empangeni High School Soccer Challenge held on Friday afternoon.

Eleven teams took part over the two age groups providing fast end-to-end action.

Schools that participated on the day were Empangeni High School, eShowe High, Felixton College, Grantleigh, John Ross College, Old Mill, Richem Secondary School and St Catherine’s.

The U15 section saw teams following a round robin format with the top team taking home the title.

John Ross College bagged the trophy and bragging rights for 2017, after ending on 7 points.

eShowe ended in a narrow second spot with 6 points.

eShowe’s Slondiwe Mkhize picked up the Woman of the Tournament award for her standout performance on the day.

The U16 section saw teams following a round robin format in two different pools, with the top sides of each pool qualifying for the final.

Felixton College ended top of pool A with 9 points and took on Pool B winners eShowe who ended on 4 points.

The local private school took the coveted title after beating eShowe 2-0.

Felixton College’s Sinethemba Mzimela received the Woman of the Tournament award.
