South African anglers dominate international clash as local competitions deliver standout catches

South Africa sweeps Namibia 6–0 as Zululand anglers impress despite tough conditions and challenging seas

Over the past two weeks, two angling competitions of note have taken place.

Firstly, South Africa took on Namibia in their annual international tournament.

This year, the event was hosted by South Africa in Jeffreys Bay. Six teams were represented: Junior U16, Junior U21, Grandmasters (Over 60s), Masters (Over 50s), Ladies, and Senior Men.

SA delivered a dominant performance, securing a 6–0 clean sweep across all categories.

Secondly, the Zululand Shore Angling Association hosted its second Common Venue competition of the season.

The event was held in Mtunzini under conditions that were less than ideal for the venue, and most of the catches consisted of smaller sharks and snapper salmon.

Despite this, both Dean Reddy and Barry Tedder managed to land young honeycomb rays, earning them top honours on the day.

Team results:
Tugela A – 122.36
Inkwazi A – 70.61
Inkwazi B – 65.69

Local report
On the local front, following some strong north-easterly winds, several impressive giant guitarfish have been landed, with ‘flatfish season’ now in full swing.

Prime locations to test your strength against a big fish include Hlobane, Mtunzini, Amatikulu and the Tugela North Bank.
Fishing off the dolosse at the north pier at Alkantstrand early Tuesday morning, Poobal Rungan made the most of the public holiday with a nice 7.5kg rock salmon.

With the Christmas season upon us, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a blessed Christmas. Please drive safely and enjoy the holidays.
