Bongani Luvalo launches second book exploring love, loss and brotherhood

Author and Cool Dads Foundation founder Bongani Luvalo unveils his new novel, Ntliziyo Ungumkhohlisi – Falling in Love with an IT Girl, at Carnival City, delving into themes of romance, family and grief.

Bongani Luvalo, founder and CEO of the Cool Dads Foundation, launched his second book, Ntliziyo Ungumkhohlisi – Falling in Love with an IT Girl, on Thursday.

“Thank you because what you have done through advocacy for men has helped us understand their journeys and hurt. After losing my twin brother last year, you have helped me in my relationship with the brother I still have. Mkhuseli’s journey affirms that we are not that different.

“We are all just boys and girls who entered life clothed in love, held in love, promised love. And when life strips us of that posture, it is no wonder that we spend the rest of our lives trying to return to it.

“Because love is where we belong. It is both the beginning and the end,” said Ayanda MaNgubane Borotho, who also wrote the book’s foreword.

Luvalo explained that he began writing the book as a way to escape the frustration of working on a completely different project.

“This became my happy pill. I was sitting in the study and started scribbling about an incident I went through with a late friend, Lebogang. I reflected on my own mischievous experiences, and those of others,” he said.

The novel is set against the backdrop of Ekurhuleni and follows the life of Mkhuseli, a young, successful man who grew up in Katlehong. Although he excels in his career, his love life is in shambles.

Luvalo noted that the book also explores sub-themes of brotherhood, family, and loss. His first book was titled A Father, A Stranger – Mzansi Memoirs of Fatherhood.

The launch took place at Carnival City in the Rio Banquet Hall.
